Origin in Cibao Valley
JT Reserve begins where great tobacco begins. In the Dominican Republic’s Cibao Valley, soil, climate, and tradition come together in a way that produces leaf with natural balance, aroma, and strength. This is not a random place on the map for us. It is the standard. The valley is known for generations of growers and rollers who treat tobacco like a craft, not a commodity.
We chose to root Flor de la Isla here because we wanted the story to be true. Real Dominican hands. Real Dominican leaf. Real Dominican patience. Every cigar we release is tied back to that origin, because where something is made matters as much as how it tastes.
Why We Started
JT Reserve was founded by Elwis Johnson and Mike Tuon with one clear goal: create a cigar that feels worthy of the moment you light it. Not a cigar built for mass production. Not a blend copied from what already sells. A cigar built with intention, from the leaf up.
We started this brand because we felt a gap in the market. There are cigars that are expensive, and there are cigars that are truly premium. We wanted to make the second one. Something with construction you can trust, flavor that stays clean through the entire smoke, and a presentation that looks as elevated as it tastes.
We also wanted a brand with a point of view. One that respects old world craftsmanship, but speaks in a modern voice. Flor de la Isla is our way of honoring tradition while building something new that still belongs in the top shelf humidor.
What Reserve Means
Reserve is not a marketing word for us. It is a mindset. Reserve means we do not rush. We take the time to select the right tobacco, refine the blend, and let the cigar rest until it performs the way we expect.
Reserve also means intention. A cigar is not just something you smoke. It is something you choose for a moment. A celebration, a quiet win, a late night conversation, a reset after a long week. The cigar becomes part of that memory.
That is why we call it JT Reserve. Because the product is made with patience, and the experience is meant to be enjoyed with the same patience. You do not just smoke it. You reserve the moment for it.
Commitment to Construction and Aging
We judge a cigar by how it performs, not just how it smells on the foot. Construction is everything. The draw has to be right. The burn has to be even. The ash has to hold. The smoke has to stay smooth from the first third to the final inch.
That consistency is not luck. It comes from standards. It comes from fermentation and aging done correctly, so the leaf is clean and stable before it ever becomes a cigar. It comes from blending that prioritizes balance, not harsh strength. It comes from rolling that respects airflow and structure. And it comes from letting the cigars rest after rolling so they settle and smoke the way they should.
We do not chase shortcuts. We do not release cigars just to release them. Every edition under Flor de la Isla is built to meet the same expectation. If it has our name on it, it has to smoke like it belongs there.
